When you choose a Canadamark diamond, you’re choosing a diamond that supports local communities, protects the environment, and maintains the highest global standards of diamond mining and trade.
How does this benefits the planet and why is it the more ecologically responsible choice?
Celestara diamonds are mined in the pristine northern territories of Canada, where environmental stewardship isn't an afterthought—it's foundational. Unlike traditional operations, our mines are:
Powered by Nature: The on-site 9.2MW wind farm has been operational since 2012 saving approximately 65 million litres of diesel so far.
6,620 Solar panels generate 3.5MW of clean energy, cutting 2,900 tonnes of CO₂ annually.
Diesel-Free Future: Our wind initiative alone generates 17GWh of clean energy and offsets 5 million litres of diesel every year.
Carbon Neutrality Roadmap: We’re committed to reaching 100% carbon neutrality, setting a new standard for ethical luxury.
Biodiversity Protection
Our mining practices are carefully designed to protect Arctic ecosystems:
Caribou migration routes must remain undisturbed and ice roads are used so they can cross easily.
Northern lakes and fisheries are safeguarded by rigorous environmental planning and continuous monitoring.
Ice road construction respects natural patterns and seasonal wildlife movement.
Investing in Indigenous Communities
True sustainability includes people. Celestara invests directly in local Indigenous communities, supporting:
Employment and income opportunities for local and indigenous people
Access to healthcare and education
Cultural preservation and environmental stewardship
Our partnerships ensure that diamond profits circulate back into the land and people they originate from.
Natural Real Rare
Celestara diamonds are formed by the Earth over billions of years each one unique, unreplicable, and filled with natural character. Unlike lab-grown stones, which are manufactured in days, Canadamark diamonds are the real thing. They’re increasingly rare, especially with full traceability and sustainability credentials.
Lab-Grown vs Celestara
Natural Origin: Celestara diamonds are created by the Earth over billions of years, not in fossil fueled mega factories.
Environmental Responsibility: Almost all synthetic diamonds are produced in coal-powered regions like China and India, using highly energy intensive methods like CVD and HPHT.
Celestara diamonds are sourced from Canadian mines that utilise clean energy and operate under strict sustainability laws.True Rarity: Synthetic diamonds are mass produced and widely available which eviscerates their value. Celestara diamonds are rare, ethically sourced, and individually selected.
Verified Transparency: Every Celestara diamond comes with a unique Canadamark ID and a GIA origin report. You can trace your diamond's journey from the original rough stone at the mine to its final polished form in our showroom a level of transparency unmatched by any other natural or lab grown diamond. Celestara isn’t just a beautiful choice it’s a responsible one.
What Happens After the Diavik Mine Closes?
The Diavik Diamond Mine is scheduled to end commercial operations in early 2026, with a small team staying on-site until around 2029 to safely manage the closure. But long before the final diamond is unearthed, Diavik has already begun planning for a future where the land is returned to nature.
Since 2023, progressive reclamation has been underway—closing water collection ponds, stabilizing the underground mine, and preparing waste areas for long-term safety. From 2025 to 2028, the mine will enter full-scale closure. That includes removing buildings, restoring wildlife pathways, and reshaping the land to blend back into the surrounding Arctic landscape. The open pits will be safely flooded with water from Lac de Gras, and engineered covers will protect against any environmental risk from mined materials.
Returning the Land to Good Health
Diavik’s goal is to leave behind a landscape that’s safe, stable, and usable for future generations—including Indigenous communities with deep ties to the land. The site will go through years of environmental monitoring after closure to ensure nature reclaims the area successfully. This includes protecting fish habitats, replanting native vegetation, and reshaping landforms to match natural patterns.
The plan is built on both scientific insight and traditional Indigenous knowledge, making it one of the most thorough mine closure strategies in Canada. It’s not just about finishing a project—it’s about starting a lasting legacy of environmental responsibility.
